Precursor of an Adventure

It’s always called to me, I imagine, the way it does for most who decide this very same choice. For as far back as I can remember, I have been dreaming of traveling to foreign lands and meeting new people with different stories of their life to tell. The mystique of a new place, where you have no idea what you must give or what you will receive from each destination. Somehow that level of uncertainty has spurred me even further into yearning for it. As the day to approached to board my first plane, I surprisingly got less and less nervous about if I was making a mistake or not. I knew I wasn’t making a mistake, if anything I knew I was catapulting myself into a much larger world than I had ever known.

I would have never considered me as a person who played it safe. However, at some point I started believing my life needed to be what everyone else thought the dream was: a wife, kids, the nice house, and a comfortable desk job. It wasn’t that I didn’t want all of these things, I did, but I wasn’t ready to follow the road that was going to give me those things in life just yet. I had repeatedly made mistake after mistake, each one stifling my will to follow my dreams more and more, convincing me I needed to play it safe. I had set a goal to save for a house in my home town. Had the house I set my sights on not sold before I could put in an offer, I wouldn’t be writing this from The Sacramento International Airport waiting to board my first of many flights ahead of me.

With the house sold, I had to decide what I would direct my efforts towards. After deciding that I wasn’t ready to sign a 30-year contract, I came up with a trip where I would hit most, if not all the stops I ever had any desire to see. I’ve done my best in setting up the arrival times that worked with certain festivals or seasons I wanted to experience and what would be the most cost efficient route that suited how I wanted to experience everything.

I will be circumnavigating west across the globe. Being an absolutely new full time traveler, adventurer, vagabond, or whatever one calls themselves after declaring to do this. I will be sharing my highs, lows, and the in between. I am novice in my travel experiences, so you can expect to read about mistakes I make and what I learn from the situations I find myself in. Mind you that I only speak English fluently, and a very small amount of Spanish. I will certainly have to learn quite a bit while traveling. Throughout these posts, one can expect to read about the different cities I venture into, adventure sports, national monuments, the people I encounter, the places i stay, as well as reviews of local cuisine.

I hope you will join me by following my travels ahead.

Thank you,

Zack
